Meet Chef
Silken
My name is Silken; I am the Food Service Manager and Executive Chef at Winchester Glen Retirement Community. I was formally trained at Durham College and graduated with a degree in Culinary Management. Since then, I have gone onto earning my Red Seal Designation in the craft which I’m proud to say I completed while 9 months pregnant.
I started my cooking journey in a fine dining Italian restaurant as a dishwasher and prep cook and worked my way through the ranks then after moved onto a multitude of different cooking environments including golf courses and catering, I finally landed in retirement cooking and fell in love with the environment and working closely with the people who live in the building.
I’m very excited to work with my team to exceed any expectations and needs our community has for my dining room and kitchen and believe strongly in “in season” cooking using the freshest vegetables and products I can find.
